North Carolina is typically too far south for large amounts of snow fall but when we get extreme winter weather, we can be unprepared for it, and we often have bouts of extreme cold temperatures during the winter months.

Please feel free to review Ready.Gov's site or The American Red Cross's site for winter weather preparedness.

Before a storm or extreme cold weather hits, please make sure that cabinets under all sinks that are located on an outside wall are open and/or the faucet is dripping. Never turn off the heat during cold winter months, especially if you plan on being away from home for an extended amount of time in order to avoid broken pipes and flooding within the home. And don't forget to keep following the local weather reports, such as WRAL, when a storm is about to hit.
